Alternative/post-grunge quartet COSMIC KITTEN have only shown true grit this year. Their forthcoming self-titled album is set to be released via Psyched! Records on October 17 and now, the band are ecstatic to share their second single ‘Hole in My Soul’, a raw and emotionally charged track that digs deep into the dark corners of self-doubt, emotional numbness, and the quiet desperation of trying to feel whole again. Blending the intensity, edge, and grit of post-grunge and punk, the song channels a visceral heaviness both lyrically and sonically.
Written as a cathartic release, ‘Hole in My Soul’ was born from a place of emotional excavation — a reckoning with inner turmoil and the feeling of being stuck in one’s own darkness. Vocalist Karen Marie states, “The repetition of dragging through dirt and lying in a self-made grave is more than just a metaphor; it’s an unfiltered reflection of mental and emotional exhaustion, both violently and softly displayed in this song.”
Drummer Zach Huckabee adds, “People sometimes think that my only job is to be the drummer, this song was a rare occasion where I was able to write the instrumentation and underlying melody from start to finish and it was a really rewarding process. The chords were lazily formed on my fingers in a moment of defeat, and the genesis of the intro riff, bursts of anger breaking through the hopelessness in stabs, and those feelings were perfectly matched by Karen when they added their vocals.”
Produced by Alex Edkins (METZ), engineered by Ben Greenberg (Uniform), mixed by Graham Walsh and mastered by Jack Endino, the track was crafted to preserve its raw core. Every distorted guitar, every screamed lyric, carries the weight of that inner struggle, unrelenting and honest.
To accompany the release, Cosmic Kitten also unveil a music video for ‘Hole in My Soul’. Set in a cemetery, the video visually amplifies the song’s themes of grief, isolation, and existential longing, blurring the lines between life, death, and rebirth. It’s a stark, atmospheric counterpart to the track — equal parts haunting and cathartic.
From the first chord to the final frame, ‘Hole in My Soul’ stands as both a confession and a confrontation — with oneself, with pain, and with the distant hope that something redemptive might still be unearthed from the grave.
