Bristol based alt-country-rock artist Elly Hopkins returns with her second single, ‘Animal’—a moody, guitar-driven lament that howls with bluesy provocation and stubborn honesty. Following the quietly striking debut ‘Cecile’, ‘Animal’ is a bold step deeper into the heart and depth of Hopkins’ sonic world.
Fuzzed-out guitars, bluesy slides and growling riffs carry a guttural cry: for reconnection—with nature, instinct, and the parts of ourselves we’ve buried under anxiety, rumination, and modern chaos.
Elly says of the track: “I was sat at the kitchen table, stewing, spiralling, and feeling stuck. I picked up the guitar and out of the frustration came this rallying call… It’s sometimes easy to forget that as humans we are nature, not separate from it. We are animals.”
‘Animal’ is both exorcism and affirmation—part mindfulness meditation, part sonic wildfire. At its core, it’s about purging the ghosts that haunt us to return to something more raw, real, and alive.
