Erin Lunsford shares dreamy breakup anthem ‘Last I Heard’

Award-winning Virginia born singer/songwriter Erin Lunsford returns with ‘Last I Heard,’ a gut-punch of a breakup song that’s equal parts dreamy and devastating. Written over a decade after the heartbreak that inspired it, the track arrives as the second single from Lunsford’s forthcoming solo album and marks a bold, personal reawakening from the acclaimed frontwoman of Erin & The Wildfire.

Described by Lunsford as a “dreamy breakup anthem,” ‘Last I Heard’ unfolds like a late night journal entry finally given a mic. A shimmering letter of closure, the track channels raw vulnerability through warm analog textures, haunting fiddle, and an aching blend of folk and indie pop that echoes the Appalachian storytelling traditions of her Blue Ridge Mountain roots.

“I wrote ‘Last I Heard’ in one sitting, just three weeks after I got engaged,” says Lunsford. “It’s wild how grief can linger in the body until you’re finally in a safe enough place to let it go. This song came pouring out of me like my heart had just been waiting for permission.”

Though the inspiration stems from a crushing 2012 breakup, one that unraveled on the stoop of her college apartment in front of nosy neighbors. ‘Last I Heard’ isn’t just a song about loss. It’s about the aftershocks of heartbreak, the unsolicited updates from mutual friends, the fantasies of rekindling, and the long road to healing. “It’s the song I needed to write back then, but couldn’t until now,” she adds.
