Hot Stamp have today released their new single ‘Better Taste’, their brilliant follow-up to debut track ‘Josephine’.
Hot Stamp are two gunslingers from north London. The sisters, Jasmine and Poppy, have been playing incendiary shows across the capital over the last two years, honing their live show. They are a force of nature, inspired by art-pop provocateurs and punk icons alike. With their new single ‘Better Taste’ they have written a caustic post-breakup track that shows their songwriting is developing at a rapid rate.
Hot Stamp talk through the song: “‘Better Taste’ tells the story of seeing your ex downgrade to the point that it reflects badly on you. You’re not heartbroken, you’re embarrassed to have ever been the predecessor. The rose-tinted glasses are off, and all that’s left to do is hypothetically destroy all the evidence. Make ex boyfriends cool again… or at least salvageable.”
“It was fun to write a breakup song that isn’t all ‘woe is me’, because in this case, woe is very much not me. It’s more about the power of hindsight, and realising that everything you once believed about someone doesn’t really hold up. ‘Better Taste’ blames it on his new girlfriend, but honestly, he was probably never as cool as I made him out to be.”
