Jane Paknia announces new EP and shares single ‘Solace’

Emerging NYC-based composer and musician Jane Paknia announces Millions of Years of Longing, a brand new EP released June 6 via Eat Your Own Ears Recordings. Hear new single ‘Solace’ now.

Drawing influences from the likes of PC Music and Caroline Polachek as well as Bach, free jazz, and Alice Coltrane, Paknia delivers a forceful and dreamily thoughtful statement, combining a deep foundation of performance and composition with a pulsing, imaginative pop edge.

“I devoted the song to SOPHIE and Alice Coltrane, two artists that were in my heart and on my mind during the composition and who are a big part of the “you” I was so effortfully stepping towards at that time,” Jane explains of the new single. “They were my ‘solace’, the combo of their names! I really intended for a crying in the club vibe in this one…to make something so sensitive and also pulsing felt like an accomplishment, an alchemizing of the discomfort I was experiencing. Lonely, unsure, but ‘The dream’s enough to have by my side.’”

Borne out of Paknia’s longing to become a new version of herself, the conflict explored on ‘Solace’ runs throughout the EP: “I was seeing and moving towards my inspiration but not okay enough with myself to be in the process of growth,” she explains. “This led to a feeling that time was stretching out, so a month or two felt like ‘millions of years of longing…’”
