Canadian singer-songwriter, Lennie Rayen, shares her newest single ‘Give It Up’.

Rayen says, “‘Give It Up’ is the first single off the record, and the first song I’m putting out after my last release in 2023. I feel like this song is a good encapsulation of the record as a whole, but also a big return for me as I feel like it shows how my sound has evolved into this rockier direction. The song itself is sort of just about getting free and feeling free.. Something I am always striving for as an artist and as a person in general– to be more loose and forgiving with myself (to just live!).

“Throughout the verses/pre-chorus I touch on limerence – I have a natural inclination to fall in love with the idea of everything, rather than the reality of who or what it is. It may be a coping mechanism, an escape from the world… but I feel comfort in it, as well as the mystery of things– I think that mystery keeps wonder alive, and that fully feeds my creativity– especially in this track.

“The music video is based on the concept of limerence. It moves between two worlds: a band performance and a masked forest sequence. The masked figures represent limerence — the way infatuation exists in the idea of someone or something, rather than the reality. As I follow them through the woods, their masks glow, obscuring their true faces and keeping them just out of reach.

“As the video progresses, the glow fades and their faces are revealed. That moment marks a shift, where the illusion falls away and I’m confronted with reality – and I run.”
