Emerging as part of a new wave of exciting voices within the Sydney indie scene, MEGA FÄUNA are taking a confident stride into a brand new year with the announcement of their new album, softmore.
The record, following on from 2023’s Fibonacci Sequins EP, is a collection of music that positions the five-piece in a defiant and vibrant creative phase. Already, the group has established a beautiful chemistry that has run from the studio, directly into the DNA of their music.
MEGA FÄUNA is proud to reveal their new single from softmore, the magnetic track ‘heartbeat’. A song that captures the listener’s attention with ease, ‘heartbeat’ is a gripping release that acts as a definitive moment for MEGA FÄUNA as they kick off a new year of art and creative endeavours together.
Recorded at Stranded Recording Studio in Bellambi on the lands of the Dharawal Wodi Wodi, this project came together with producer and engineer Guy Fenech (AUSTRALIA the Band, Ces Hotbake, Shearin’, James Domeyko). As the band explains, ‘heartbeat’ is a song that navigates the headiness of life lived everyday; its unpredictability anchored by a central, primal heartbeat that keeps us going.
“It’s about the fact that time keeps ticking, life keeps cruising and whether or not we want it to and our bodies just keep doing their secret, magic jobs inside of us without us even thinking about it or trying to control it. It’s kinda cool to think about this inner life that just goes on and on despite the kinda day you are having, despite the words you are saying, the games you are playing, or the emotions you are feeling,” say the band.
“It’s a little bit marvelling at the body and a bit about the whirlwind that life can sometimes feel like. Day in, day out racing yourself to get everything done and teetering between feeling like things are staying on track and almost losing a grip. But always it just comes back to that heartbeat that keeps on keeping rhythm despite it all and quietly wondering at what else might be going on beneath all the skin and muscle and blood.”
