Nectar Woode shares her first single of the year ‘Lights Off’

Rising soul powerhouse Nectar Woode returns with ‘Lights Off’ which has been premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record. Marking her first release of the year, the track sets the tone for what promises to be an incredible year for the British-Ghanaian artist, who will join Olivia Dean for a special BRITs Week performance in aid of War Child on Thursday.

Carried by Nectar’s velvet-smooth vocals, ‘Lights Off’ narrates the need to drown out the noise in the pursuit of inner peace. Introspective and effortlessly soulful, the track is a heartfelt ode to honouring your intuition and emotions.

On the release, Nectar Woode says: “During this time of writing I found that other people’s opinions would play on my mind constantly and affect my choices and what I wanted to do in life. So, this is a love song about wanting to be with someone but having to drown out the noise and having to turn the ‘lights off’ which are other people’s opinions. It’s about not being dictated by anyone’s emotions and is also a form of growing up and realising you can do whatever you want. A journey to finding your love all wrapped up in a desert soul tune.”
