Independent singer-songwriter Neish releases her deeply personal new single, ‘19. This marks her first independent release following her departure from her former label, Space 44.
In ‘19,’ Neish confronts the anxiety and grief she experienced as each birthday felt like a step further from her youth. She shares, “I wrote ‘19’ on the night of my 19th birthday about the fear I had of not being considered a teenager once I turned 20. The song stems from the pressure I felt from people’s expectations to achieve something at a young age, and each birthday felt like I was losing youth and welcoming new responsibilities and hardships.”
The track also reflects on her struggles with mental illness, including depression, anxiety, and an eating disorder, which she felt robbed her of her childhood. “I hated birthdays as they felt more painful than joyful, acting as uncomfortable reminders of a life I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep living,” Neish adds. “’19’ is a deeply personal and vulnerable song that I wrote for anyone who has felt the same fear and grief of losing time.”
