Genre-bending live sensations Rainbow Kitten Surprise have unveiled the perfect summer anthem, ‘Dang,’ out today via Atlantic Records. Along with the track, the band released a stunning music video chronicling a couple’s epic adventure through Nashville in search of a secret rooftop concert.
On ‘Dang,’ steady guitar riffs build towards a chorus that begs to be shouted out a car window while driving with your best friends, with frontwoman Ela Melo’s powerful vocals taking center stage. The accompanying video is inspired by 2008’s Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, which follows a group of high schoolers on their quest around New York to see their favourite band perform at a pop-up show. Rainbow Kitten Surprise give the film a queer, East Nashville twist in the video, which follows a real-life couple racing around the city to catch an RKS performance, finding moments to connect (and even perform karaoke) along the way.
On creating this song, the band shares, “When we wrote this, we envisioned tracking it with Jay Joyce and it’s pretty legendary that actually came to be. ‘Dang’ is loosely based on a performance that drew inspiration from ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.’ The song is both an ode to some earlier RKS sounds and also a letter to the fans who have supported us through many iterations of the band. For your enjoyment, here’s ‘Dang’.”
