Acclaimed Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Aisha Badru announces her second album, The Sun Still Rises out November 29, and with the news releases ‘Boundaries’, the new single out now via Nettwerk.
Much of Aisha’s magic lies in alchemy, distilling an often-tangled human experience into simple truths and quieting the noise to pave a path towards introspection. Her work is at once powerful and beautiful, as evidenced in her recent singles, the hushed indie pop of ‘Thankful To Be Here’, the bright and soothing ‘Life To Live’, the excellent ‘A Little Mad’ and now with new single ‘Boundaries’ – all taken from the new record.
“I’ve always sort of felt torn,” Badru admits, “between wanting to be someone who is very much a singer-songwriter and being recognized in the wellness space.” So now, she’s doing both. With each EP release since Pendulum, her full-length debut in 2018, this empath has been lovelorn, torn, and reborn. With The Sun Still Rises, her second LP, she plays the part of sage, beckoning us away from darknesses. “Yes, I’m an artist,” she continues. “But I’m very intentional about the music that I release: that it is medicinal, that it can soothe emotions. This album encapsulates the entirety of my growth.”
Aisha says that much of The Sun Still Rises is devoted to the immeasurable power of stillness and reflection, evident in the new single, ‘Boundaries.’ With forthright rhymes and Aisha’s trademark hushed vocal, ‘Boundaries’ is pure campfire-folk, inviting listeners to step back from the constant buzz of social media and frenetic news cycles that can sometimes overwhelm us all.
Aisha says: “‘Boundaries’ is the alternative to the workaholic, always available, ultra-productive archetype/mindset that is so prevalent today, especially in the age of social media. Sometimes stillness and rest is the best course of action to move forward.”
