Blessing Jolie bids farewell to the past on new single ’20teens’

Nigerian-American singer-songwriter and guitarist Blessing Jolie has unveiled her new single ‘20teens’ via Thirty Tigers.

Produced by Julian Cruz (Dominic Fike) and Gavin Hadley and written entirely by Jolie herself, ‘20teens’ is a raucous slice of indie-pop with alt-rock leanings. Laced with witty sarcasm and a sense of self-actualisation, ‘20teens’ is an anthemic and tongue-in-cheek declaration of newfound independence and shedding of old habits.

Anchored by Jolie’s singular vocal delivery which is in equal parts biting, fierce and nonchalant, ‘20teens’ weaves nostalgia, heartbreak and wit into a gritty coming of age anthem that recalls the likes of Tracy Chapman, Alanis Morisette, SZA and WILLOW.

Speaking on the song’s inspiration, Blessing said: “’20teens’ is one of my favorite songs from my upcoming album, and I’m beyond excited to finally release it. I wrote it in a moment of clarity—when I started recognizing red flags and realized I don’t have to accept what I can’t tolerate. It’s another honest moment that is captured candidly”
