House/Garage singer-songwriter Chikaya releases her brand new single, ‘The Lion’ today.

Written, sang, produced, mixed and mastered by three POC women, ‘The Lion’ offers a message of empowerment, loving yourself, being self assured, secured and powerful. Produced by Justine Bruce aka Likkle Jay and Simone V, the track incorporates elements of house, garage, pop and R&B, all wrapped up in Chikaya’s distinctively sultry vocals and compelling lyricism.

Speaking of the track, Chikaya says, “I was inspired and feeling empowered to write about how liberated a connection with the right person can make you feel. Wild, free, sexy and alive.

“The lyric ‘You wake up the Lion Inside Of Me’ had been floating around on my notes for some time. I knew I wanted to use it as a hook but I wasn’t sure when, so I just left it as I knew eventually the time would come!

“I met Simone V one night in a Wetherspoons after we’d both attended a Nono gig, we hit it off immediately, we exchanged Instas. Simone 100% understood the vision of The Lion, and everything fell into place. We then teamed up with Grammy nominated Music producer Justina Bryce aka Likkle Jay who finalised the track. It was all a super easy and fun process from start to finish.

“I want listeners to reminisce over times they felt like a bad bitch, and soak it in. This is a song all about confidence and loving yourself, being self assured, secured and powerful – just like a Lion. I encourage everybody to embrace their inner Lion!”
