Coco – Maia Friedman (Dirty Projectors), Oliver Hill (Pavo Pavo), and Dan Molad (Lucius) – share a new single, ‘Moodrings,’ with a charismatic video.
The track, off of their forthcoming album, 2, out March 1 via First City Artists, boasts Maia’s velvet vocals over dusky electronica. The accompanying video, directed by Oliver, features actors that represent “Coco in 2060. May we be so lucky,” says the band. Each actor captures the essence of Coco and the sensuality of the song as they sway and play onstage.
“At Montrose Recording in Richmond, the engineer Adrian had an incredible modular synth rig, which we ran Maia’s vocal through to achieve the chopped up ‘femme-bot’ instrumental breaks,” says Oliver. “There was a bit of back and forth about whether to include the bridge, which we ultimately felt earned its place with a dramatic scene change into string-led Philly soul.”
