London-based punks Dream Nails are back with a euphoric break-up song in the form of ‘CONTROL,’ working with award-winning producer Adrian Bushby and returning with a revitalised, power trio line-up. The band’s latest offering (out now via Marshall Records) sees the three-piece galvanised and more vital than ever, with bass player Mimi Jasson stepping forward as the band’s new vocalist.
“As Dream Nails enters its third phase as a classic power trio, it’s the perfect time to share ‘Control’ with the world,” remarks drummer Lucy Katz. “Our bassist, Mimi, is now on lead vocals while continuing to bass-slay. Seeing her take vocals in her stride is genuinely inspiring and is pushing our musicianship further than we ever thought we could go. We’ve found a new energy.”
“Our new track is about understanding why people might stay in an unhealthy relationship for too long,” adds Jasson. “The lyrics reflect ‘there’s good in bad and bad in the good’. Things are never simple; we wanted that nuance to come across.”
Guitarist Anya Pearson adds, “‘Control’ is also about stepping into your power, finding the courage to leave someone trying to control you and mess with your head. It’s vulnerable, it’s brave, and it’s euphoric.”
“We had the pleasure of recording ‘Control’ at the Marshall Studio with producer Adrian Bushby, who’s recorded with some of our heroes like the Foo Fighters and Spice Girls.” Jasson recalls excitedly, “We asked him to regale us with stories from the golden era recording ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, and then we channelled a bit of that spice into the track.”
