Ebba Åsman unveils enigmatic new single ‘Did I Go’

Swedish jazz trombonist and singer-songwriter Ebba Åsman has unveiled her latest single ‘Did I Go’.

Soothing and pensive, ‘Did I Go’ is Åsman’s nostalgic statement of lament, longing and disillusionment. Resembling the feel of a warm blanket, the enigmatic and inward-looking track deals with the inner battles that we have with ourselves as we wade through our circumstances and attempt to make sense of what awaits in the future.

Speaking on the track, Ebba said: “I wanted the song to feel melancholic. It’s about being in your own thoughts but at the same time wanting help on how to navigate them. No one knows where the road goes, all we can do is try to just follow the ride”.

Produced by Åsman herself alongside Lucy Liebe, the track’s somber and ethereal mood is brought to life by its piercing trombone vocalisations and its melding with ambient electronica, jazz-rap and bebop. All at once sounding at home with work from the likes of Bjork, A Tribe Called Quest, Puma Blue and Sade.

With a compellingly fragile and delicate vocal performance from Ebba, she sings “Second guessing thoughts at night that were my own. Taking detours back, forgetting that I’ve grown. Wish I could see how it turns out 5 years from now, where did I go?’”
