EGO ELLA MAY shares new single ‘We’re Not Free’

Award-winning British-Nigerian singer-songwriter and musician Ego Ella May shares ‘We’re Not Free’, the second single to be taken from her forthcoming,  highly anticipated sophomore album, the follow-up to her critically acclaimed 2020 debut Honey For Wounds, due for release in early 2026.

“You’re not free ‘til everyone else is”, Ego sings – a tender reflection of today’s political climate, produced with South London musician Melo- Zed. “I wrote this song about trying to distance myself from the realities of what is happening in the world, and realising it’s impossible,” Ego explains. “What affects one person, affects us all, and it’s our duty to care about the lives and well-being of others.”

With echoes of Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’, the song carries a spirit of social consciousness. “I feel honoured to have written this song,” Ego says. “I hope it sparks conversations around collective care, about holding our politicians accountable, about not losing hope, and about stewardship.”
