Intrusive thoughts. Obsessive ruminations. Compulsive repetitions and rituals. These are the tormenting hallmarks of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a mental health condition that affects millions. Hooked Like Helen’s latest single, ‘OCD (these thoughts again),’ is an indie-rock, modern post-grunge anthem that dives deep into the struggles faced by those dealing with OCD. Capturing the raw, autobiographical essence of what it feels like to live with a brain that feels like it’s on fire, the new track combines hook-driven, melodic elements with an anthemic energy, characteristic of Hooked Like Helen’s signature style.
‘OCD (these thoughts again)’ was co-produced by HLH’s Nikki Stipp as well as Kevin McCombs (Teenage Wrist, Papa Roach, Royal & The Serpent). The undeniably powerful track delivers the cinematic quality of Hooked Like Helen’s beloved pop music but with a new, angst-driven rock edge that has ushered them into a new era of music.
“Mental Health Awareness is one of the most important platforms for us as a band,” says Nikki Stipp. “This track is meant to be both a conversation starter and a 3-minute and 10-second bit of relief for our fans who struggle mentally and emotionally. We write our songs from our own experiences in an attempt to help heal ourselves and others.”
