Memphis’ rising indie-pop duo Isabella&Sebastian unveiled their new single and video, ‘Jellyfruit’.
Isabella’s passionate vocals lead the way, floating alongside a flurry of keys that bring a wave of emotion to the grooving pop track. The dazzling piano piece pushes and pulls the song in a way that drives the dramatic tension of the lyrical story, with lyrics acknowledging a toxic relationship with a narcissistic partner, finally fed up with their manipulative behavior.
“I actually wrote this song as a hate letter to jellyfruit (the candy),” Isabella explains. “But, the broader metaphor is about analyzing and acknowledging a narcissistic partner’s behavior. This person is known for love bombing to manipulate situations, and the singer is fed up. The song acts as a monologue, as the singer understands that things might not get better, but they accept that fact and prepare to make a decision.”
