Independent singer-songwriter JOBIE releases biting single, ‘Sulfur Skies’ today. The track is a sardonic take on the feeling of doom that is characteristic to modern day living.
We truly live in a society, and boy, does JOBIE know it. Never has the artist been more sarcastic, more tongue in cheek than we find her in ‘Sulfur Skies.’ Though, this is no morose dirge or mournful recollection of the better days; JOBIE has crafted an air of jovial defiance, staring doomsday straight in the eyes and demanding of it: “Let me live a life / I desire.”
Stepping away from her usual warm indie-folk sound, JOBIE has chosen jangle rock — with a dash of riot grrrl fury — as the appropriate vessel for these heated feelings. She juxtaposes gritty, belted lead vocals with a cheeky call and response from spoken backup vocals; snappy percussive elements clashing with frenetic guitar lines.
On the track, JOBIE shares, “‘Sulfur Skies’ was not written in an attempt to make light of the dire present circumstances, but instead to wake people up to the fact that our time on this earth might be more limited than we think. Why are we acquiescing and living a life that isn’t ours? We make so many concessions in our day to day lives to uphold the system that is actively killing us. I wanted people to feel empowered enough to say that they’re fed up, and to give them the encouragement to live authentically in spite of everything that is going on.”
