Lemon Power returns with ‘I’m an Animal,’ a track brimming with the genre-blending soundscapes and relatable lyricism that have become the band’s signature. The London-based duo, fronted by vocalist and guitarist Sere, with Ale on bass, has created a stirring, introspective anthem exploring themes of escape and self-discovery.
The roots of ‘I’m An Animal’ trace back to early pandemic days, with Sere first conceiving the melody on slide guitar in an alternative tuning. “I’d been feeling the need to break away from societal expectations and return to something more authentic,” Sere shares. This spirit of defiance runs through her favorite lyric: “Let’s burn this city to find a new place, a new age,” an invitation to leave behind the conventional and explore the unknown.
While Sere’s evocative vocals and guitar and Ale’s powerful basslines form the backbone of ‘I’m An Animal,’ additional musicians like Alex O’Hare on drums and Stefano Martini on synths have been brought in, exemplifying Lemon Power’s collective ethos. This approach has given Lemon Power their signature, genre-fluid sound that freely mixes elements of grunge, indie, and pop.
Ale, whose favorite lyric, “Because I don’t belong here,” reflects a desire for freedom, describes the single as “a testament to our genre-fluidity—mixing elements of grunge, indie, and a radio-friendly edge.” Influences ranging from Elastica to The Breeders add depth to the track, as Lemon Power continues pushing the boundaries of alternative rock with their distinct sound.
Recorded at Konk Studios, the single was produced by Matt Jaggar, with the mastering crafted by Cicely Balston. The track’s layers and sonic richness reflect Lemon Power’s commitment to quality production, delivering a polished but raw sound that resonates deeply.
