Liang Lawrence, one of the UK’s most exciting new alt-pop voices, has released her latest single ‘Thoughtless’, via The Other Songs. It’s the second track to be lifted from her forthcoming EP It’s A Funny Thing (due September 26).
Known for crafting sun-soaked, road-trip ready melodies underscored by lyrically rich and introspective storytelling, Liang’s music captures a rare balance between joy and vulnerability. ‘Thoughtless’ continues this duality – a shimmering, hook-filled track born from a moment of raw frustration and self-reflection.
Liang says – “I started writing ‘Thoughtless’ at a time when I was feeling very frustrated and selfishly pursuing something that is seemingly so self-involved. To get to write music about my life and my feelings is a dream but the pressure to have substance beyond that is something I always struggle with. I also had just been on a hinge date with someone who had said that I’d “decided to stop using my brain” because I didn’t pursue what I studied at university. This song was a real emotional release of all of those feelings and in hindsight I think it’s just part of the human condition to constantly be seeking a purpose to tether ourselves to but ultimately screw that guy I love writing music that helps hopefully people understand themselves a bit better.”
