London-based producer and singer-songwriter Liza Lo has shared a new single titled ‘A Messenger’. The single comes alongside the news of her signing to independent analogue specialist label, Gearbox Records (home to Abdullah Ibrahim, Binker & Moses, Thiago Nassif, Levitation Orchestra, Graham Costello, and more). The new single follows her self-released Flourish EP.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Daughter, Maro, and Billie Marten, Liza Lo’s sound meets an intersection where gentle folk-inspired instrumentation meets indie-pop. Recorded at Studio 13 with Jon Kelly (Paul McCartney, Kate Bush), her reflective new single ‘A Messenger’ combines delicate string arrangements and gossamer guitar work, which swells and blooms around Liza’s intimate and poetic vocals.
Speaking on the single, she says, “‘A Messenger’ is written about the heartbreak that comes with losing a friend. A reminder that people come and go in life, like little messengers they come along and leave an unexpected mark on you, take the lessons as they pass along with you. A topic that often goes unspoken, whilst we are all familiar with the pain that comes with the sudden end of a friendship. Written after a conversation with my best friend.”
