Molly O’Leary shares their new single ‘Echo’

Molly O’Leary (they/them) is gearing up for the February 23 release of their new LP Marigold, and in anticipation O’Leary shares the single ‘Echo’.

The song is written for their big brothers Tommy and Teddy. It’s incredibly sweet thematically, and the song beats with a gentle, reliable pulse that matches Molly’s words about how they lean on their brothers and will always love them. “One day we’ll be gray / well I’ll be green but you know what I mean” sings O’Leary in a funny reference to their own dyed hair that serves an intimate view into a world of deep trust and inside jokes among siblings.

“I wrote this song for my big brothers.” shares O’leary. “I wanted them to know that, even as we get older, I will always need them. My brother Tommy is a drummer, and my brother Teddy is a cardiologist (aka a heart doctor), hence the references to the drum and the heart in the bridge. I think it’s interesting that both of their jobs have to do with pulses, with beats. There are other references in the song to this theme but I’ll leave them unsaid for listeners to find. Also, Megan Coleman is on drums for this song and the whole record, and she completely nailed it. I especially wanted this song to be drum focused, and I love how it came out.”
