Nat Oaks shares new single ‘The Way You Want Me’

Rapidly gaining momentum across the alternative hip-hop and indie pop scenes, singer-songwriter Nat Oaks returns with her new single ‘The Way You Want Me’, out everywhere now.

Channelling influences like Loyle Carner, Arlo Parks and Little Simz, Nat creates a genre-blending, dynamic signature sound, all wrapped up in her soulfully husky vocals. Her new single ‘The Way You Want Me’ marks a defiant new era of her artistry, dropping during Pride Month as an earworm you can both groove and chill out to.

Speaking of the track, Nat says, “’The Way You Want Me’ came during one of the last mornings of a songwriting camp in the Cotswolds. My producer MSTRY had come up with a skeleton beat from the couch, and I mumbled over it coming up with a theme pretty quickly.

“I used to definitely be a people pleaser, meaning it really affected me if I fell short of others’ expectations. Lyrically, The Way You Want Me rejects this, and documents a sweet realisation that whoever is in your corner will love you the way you are, with no compromises.

“Being in your early twenties, or any age really, you can feel a societal pressure to take things seriously, especially in relationships. That can take the fun out of it. This song is a reminder that you can take things slow or at your own pace and enjoy the time that you have with people.

“That’s the deep part of the track; the overall theme is just enjoying yourself and not taking things too seriously. Sometimes, it’s good enough to just want to enjoy that bit of time you have. You can’t be everything to everyone all the time. Take a step back and chill out. You’ll soon realise that some things you stress over are because you’re taking yourself way too seriously.”
