néomí announces new EP alongside tender single ‘It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)’

Following the rousing response to her recent single ‘Do You Want To Be Honest?,’ her first since signing to Nettwerk, Dutch/Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí is back once again to detail her next EP Another Year Will Pass, showcased by its captivating new offering ‘It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)’.

‘It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)’ is a tender, soul-stirring ballad about the quiet grief of letting go—even when it’s the right thing to do. The song reflects on the deep emotional weight of parting ways with someone who has become intertwined with your identity, capturing the heartbreak of unravelling a shared life.

With raw vulnerability and gentle strength, it explores the difficult process of reclaiming yourself, reminding us that while time doesn’t erase the pain, it can soften it, especially when you choose to honour your own path and stay true to who you are.

Adding about the single, néomí said, “‘It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)’is about the grief you feel for leaving someone behind in life, even though it might be the right thing to do. It is always hard, and it’s never easy to go in different paths. If you’ve loved someone for such a long time you can become ‘one’, you have to give up a whole identity to break that apart. I wrote this song as a reminder that time will ease the pain, as long as you just move on and make good choices for yourself. And especially if you don’t forget who you are as a person yourself.”

Accompanied by a surrealist video directed by Dirkje Duwel. “Because the song is about leaving someone you love dearly, but just don’t see how to, we made a surrealistic video suggesting how you can feel sometimes. An alien in your own house, while your partner is trying so hard to convince that leaving is not the right option.” néomí explains.
