Sofia Monroy releases new single about the inner striving of ‘Control’

Sofia Monroy’s new single ‘Control’ is a pop song with forthright melodies, a smirky bass line and an assertive drum beat. It will be the third and last single from the Mexican Stockholm-based artist’s upcoming debut EP Telenovela that will be released this spring.

The name Telenovela comes from a type of soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. With the passing of Sofias father when she was 11 she felt that she lost touch with her origins in Mexico, but in recent years she’s felt a need to reconnect with her roots. Sofia Monroys own telenovela is sprinkled with humor, but it also deals with her experience with minority stress, cultural identity and mental illness.

Sofia about the new single: “’Control’ is about the fear of losing control in connection with the longing to be someone else’s everything. All of a sudden you find yourself there, tied behind and perplexed, perhaps in love or maybe just stuck.”
