SpaceAcre reveal new song ‘Chemicals’

SpaceAcre combine dreamlike dark-pop with a haunting atmosphere on their new track, ‘Chemicals’, the title track from the duo’s upcoming EP. The collision of Phoebe Little’s spine-tingling vocals and Jas Scott’s electrifying, idiosyncratic musicianship provides a platform for the band’s introspective and powerful lyrics.

Starting off with a seductive, stripped back opening, ‘Chemicals’ swells with intensity as the chorus nears. The piano rises from melancholic to powerful, while Phoebe’s voice bursts into an evocative falsetto tone, and the drums come crashing down with the whole song exploding into life. Marking a distinct evolution from the sound of their debut EP, the lyrics of the new single reflect a metamorphosis, as well as the title’s suggestion that not all is as it seems.

“It’s about how chemicals can affect someone’s brain, whether they are naturally occurring or not. It has a multi-layered meaning as we all have stuff that we’re addicted to” Phoebe says. “Often when writing, we’ll be thinking about a subject, maybe something quite personal, and I’ll just get Jas to rant about it for a while. I’ll then note down the interesting bits and we write the lyrics from there”.
