The Vanity Project share new single ‘Earthbound’

London based The Vanity Project return with the sparkly single ‘Earthbound’, taking us on a tropical fever dream full of U-turns and flashbangs traversing the hooky, sing-along of pop, drum and bass, Latin alternative, and jangle pop, all slathered in a twisted restless soundscape and topped off by dystopian, esoteric lyrics….“It’s a song about wanting to shed one’s corporeal form and dissolve into the aether” explains Flora of The Vanity Project … “Jolly stuff! It’s probably at least a bit trans.”

‘Earthbound’ is FFO the glittering art pop of artists like Caroline Polacheck, Rina Sawayama, Tame Impala and Perfume Genius, with The Vanity Project’s sound also recalling the leftfield new wave of XTC, Thomas Dolby, with a slither of Adam Ant’s theatrics, with a little influence in contemporaries from the PC Music circles such as the late SOPHIE, GFOTY and Easyfun.

‘Earthbound’ is a taster for The Vanity Project’s debut album coming later in 2023, recorded by Martin King at Eve studios, Stockport, (home to the albums from Everything Everything, Metronomy, and Jane Weaver), which The Vanity Project describe as “A mad, sprawling mess of vintage synthesizers and bizarre instruments spanning several floors” – which is perfectly befitting of their multi-instrumented maximalist sound.
