Thee Soreheads unleash feminist fury on ‘My Body My Choice’

Montréal feminist punk outfit Thee Soreheads return with ‘My Body My Choice’, a furious new single released via Outhouse Records. Following their debut EP I’m Not Your Fucking Sex Doll, the four-piece channel collective anger into a defiant statement about bodily autonomy, consent and the everyday experiences of women navigating male-dominated spaces. With their debut album Deseada planned for 2027, the band are showing absolutely no signs of holding back.

Rooted in raw, old-school garage punk, ‘My Body My Choice’ combines fuzzy, abrasive guitars with a relentlessly driving bassline and frantic drums. There’s a definite Dead Kennedys influence to the instrumentation, while Maria’s wonderfully unrestrained vocals recall the confrontational spirit of Kathleen Hanna. Brimming with personality and righteous fury, her delivery transforms the track into a cathartic, shout-along punk anthem.

The accompanying video, directed by Raph Cohen-Demers, sees Maria reporting from a gym, a party, a skatepark, construction site and an office, where increasingly intimidating men invade her space. Rather than retreating, she unleashes her anger and refuses to be silenced. It’s a powerful visual statement that perfectly complements the music’s rebellious energy. One can only imagine how exhilarating this would be experienced live.
