Suffolk’s rising Alt-Pop duo Three Years Younger announce their upcoming EP Pretty For Now and share the radiant new single ‘Lost Path’.
Co-written and produced by sisters Charlie and Megan Simpson (Three Years Younger) before being mixed by Max Jerry (Netflix, BBC, FOX, Olympics) and mastered by Pete Maher (U2, Lana Del Rey, The Rolling Stones), ‘Lost Path’ opens with a wall of ethereal vocal harmonies, punching drums, crunching guitar and stylistic piano. Moving into a stripped verse of piano and soaring melodic vocals before gradually adding layers of atmospherics and bass, the track builds through the second verse before reaching an explosive and climactic final section with driving guitar tones over expressive and emotive lead vocals over the high-octane runs.
Closing with a cinematic and atmospheric wash of piano, strummed acoustic guitar and reverb drenched vocals, the track’s use of pop elements among a track which takes an unconventional song structure and uses a rich instrumental arrangement shines bright.
Lyrically, the track offers a personal reflection on the pressures of navigating life’s uncertain choices, particularly in their teenage years. The song delves into the struggle between societal expectations and the desire to pursue a passion, in this case, a career in music. Describing the inspiration behind the song, the duo said: “‘Lost Path’ is one of our oldest and most cherished songs. It was born out of the struggle we both felt to stay true to ourselves while navigating the pressures to ‘fit in’ and take the safest route.”
