Violet Love Child shares debut single ‘Evil Eye’

Emerging London based singer-songwriter Violet Love Child has signed to esteemed London tastemaker label 7476 (tinyumbrellas, Lexie Carroll) and releases her captivating debut single, ‘Evil Eye’.

Produced by Brandon ‘Hot Dennis’ Hill at The state51 Factory, the track delves into the raw emotions of betrayal and heartbreak. Led by Violet’s assured, timeless vocals; moving with a rare serenity, ‘Evil Eye’ paints a stark picture of a relationship gone awry.

Inspired by a tumultuous breakup during a holiday, ‘Evil Eye’ captures the bitterness of how a once-beloved destination can be so swiftly and irrevocably tainted. With its haunting melody and evocative lyrics, the song offers a poignant reflection on the aftermath of a failed relationship, taking cues sonically and lyrically from Leonard Cohen, Mazzy Star, and Fleetwood Mac.

Violet’s distinctive vocal style, reminiscent of artists like Ethel Cain and Phoebe Bridgers, lends a powerful intensity to the track. The song’s production, featuring a blend of alternative-pop and Americana influences, creates a moody and atmospheric soundscape that perfectly complements the emotional depth of the lyrics.

Speaking more on the release of her debut single, Violet Love Child said: “To me, ‘Evil Eye’ is about the regret of opening up to someone, sharing something special or showing your true self, only to feel vulnerable when it goes wrong. It’s written from a place of feeling wronged and frustrated, struggling with how things have changed and how someone could have the power to hurt you that much. At its core, the song asks, “How could you do this to me?””
