Annabelle Chairlegs announces new album, Waking Up, and shares ‘Concrete Trees’ single/video

Annabelle Chairlegs, the moniker of the New Jersey-born, Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter, Lindsey Mackin, announces her new Ty Segall-produced album, Waking Up, due for release on January 30 via TODO.

The announcement arrives alongside the release of her new single ‘Concrete Trees’, a poignant tribute to a late friend, capturing the surreal sensation of reconnecting with a lost loved one. The track blends surf-tinged melodies with a subtle edge, and comes accompanied by a Pooneh Ghana-directed video.

“This is a song I wrote about a friend, Steph, who passed away. A sprint through Manhattan with a ghost!” Mackin explains. “We grew up together and worked at a Scottish butcher shop in Kearny, NJ along with some of our other friends, my great aunt Mary, and the owner/butcher himself,  Al Stewart. Steph died in 2018 and I wrote this track shortly after that after waking up from a dream. Oddly enough just this year we lost Aunt Mary and Al. This song is for friends who have passed that you wish you could have one more hang with. I often find myself asking those who have passed if they are here with us now.”

Mackin’s music fuses gritty, dark, mechanical textures with a playful and whimsical spirit. On Waking Up, which was produced and recorded by Ty Segall in Topanga, CA, with Nick Cornetti on drums and Derek Strahan on bass, Mackin finds herself exploring grittier, more mechanical textures, while maintaining her knack for blissful hooks and melodies. Following two self-released records, Waking Up marks Chairlegs’ third full-length release, and her first for TODO, ushering in a bold new chapter for the Austin mainstay.
