Hannah Storm today shares new single ‘Special’, and announces her debut album It Will Never Be The Right Time, out March 20 on Petroleum Records (Sigrid, AURORA).
Written in London with songwriter and producer Eg White (Adele, Florence + The Machine, Kylie Minogue), ‘Special’ is built around Storm’s devastating vocal and a sparse, slow-moving piano arrangement – a song about wanting to be seen, and the kind of emotional imbalance that creeps into relationships when one person is already halfway out the door.
The song sits with the fallout of something that once felt certain – replaying words that were said, questioning what was real, and wondering whether you were ever really who the other person wanted you to be. Set against soft piano and a slow, unresolved build, the production keeps things stripped back, leaving Storm’s voice to carry the doubt and hurt at the centre of the song.
Speaking on the song’s release, Hannah Storm said: “Special is one of the most intimate and personal songs on the album. I wrote it together with Eg White a few years ago, and I cried through the entire writing process, haha! The song means a lot to me, and it feels both a little scary and also really good to finally be able to share it — maybe there are some people out there who need it just as much as I did when I wrote it?!”
