South London singer-songwriter Lola Young announces her new project, My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely, arriving on May 26 via Day One / Island Records. In celebration of her announcement, she delivers her brand new single, ‘Annabel’s House’.
With Lola’s warm, husky vocals at the forefront, ‘Annabel’s House’ is a burgeoning piano ballad centred on her emotions when dealing with mixed signals and unrequited love. A heartfelt expression, Lola’s new single showcases her vulnerability and relatability as an young artist.
My Mind Wanders And Sometimes Leaves Completely marks a new era for the 22-year-old singer-songwriter. Armed with a distinct London edge to her music, Lola has fully stepped out of her comfort zone, testing her writing ability to confront new topics, while mining new depths of her creativity. Her upcoming project deals with themes such as love bombing, gaslighting, body image and depression, among others; it’s a relatable listen for any young person growing up today.
Together with her superb vocal that switches between soft and strong at a moment’s notice, the young South Londoner uses a folk storytelling and diaristic style to offer the listener a front seat to immersive snapshots of her life. When speaking about her upcoming project, Lola says, “It’s my journey towards being a woman and figuring out who I am,”.
Lola worked with producers and songwriters such as Frank Ocean favourite Malay, Cass Lowe (Tinashe, Ray BLK) and Jim-E Stack (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek) to bring My Mind Wanders… to life. Her project will also include previous offering, ‘Stream of Consciousness’.
