Lucy Spraggan is certainly rounding out her year with a bang. She has returned with not only the release of ‘Balance,’ but also the announcement of her forthcoming album of the same name, out April 28, and her memoir, Process, out July 2023.
After celebrating the 10th anniversary of her first X Factor audition earlier this year with single ‘Everything Changes’ – Lucy has been spending recent months putting the finishing touches to her new album and her memoir, Process, out via Bonnier Books in Summer 2023. Both the 14-track album and the book see her reflecting on her life till now. Feeling stronger, positive, and more empowered than ever, Lucy is ready to do everything on her terms and take 2023 by storm.
Lucy kicks everything off with her beautiful new single, ‘Balance’. ‘Balance,’ produced and mixed by Philip Magee, is Lucy Spraggan at her most honest and reflective. The piano led track is a powerful and inspiring song which combines her fantastic voice with her thoughtful and optimistic lyrics. ‘Balance’ finds Lucy accepting her past, learning from it, changing her outlook, and growing for the future. It’s a positive song of change which will be related to by many due to the honest and raw way in which it is written and performed.
Describing the song, Lucy adds: “I wrote ‘Balance’ after a session with my therapist. I had just come to the end of another relationship that didn’t work out and we were talking about what it was that I was looking for in life. During the session I realised that I’d been storming through life trying to find the right person for me when I hadn’t spent much time working out who I actually was. When I started to work on who I am and how I was going to find my own balance I realised that it’s not always best to do it alone and that sometimes it’s important to reach out for help. The first person I sent the demo of the song to was my therapist. I don’t know if any of her clients have done that before! Now, when I listen to it, I hear how much I needed her help and I am so grateful for finding some Balance.”

Found this album by accident, and had to look up her thought process. It’s a beautiful, artful collection of music that really translates the feeling of processing your life through kinder, but more honest eyes. I’ve interpreted it as her looking back at her relationship with herself and accepting that she could do better for herself, and those around her, and that’s been a really healing message for me. So so so glad she’s still making music, because this feels like it can very easily become my new hyperfocus album <3
