Bethannie Hare has been a musician all her life. Just listen to her tales of growing up in Leeds with an out-of-time love of the Jazz Greats, and her non-stop performing – finding a way to put on shows and attracting attention from media and publishers before she was even a teenager. Her passion for music brought Bethannie down to London in 2022 with a phone and notebook full of songs.
Two years later, with dozens of rapturously received live shows under her belt, Bethannie releases her first single ‘Minds Under My Skin’. The lyric is inspired by events in Bethannie’s life but speaks to a universal theme — self-acceptance in an age of social media-driven perfectionism.
“The song is all about not being happy with yourself, which I think social media plays a big role in,” Bethannie explains. “People constantly compare themselves to edited, filtered images, often feeling inferior and unhappy as a result.”
The track was recorded at Sheffield’s Crystal Ship Studios with a full band and analogue equipment to achieve the vintage sound she loves.
