Pop-punk favourites The Dollyrots are back with ‘Apocalyptic Romance’, the first taste of their forthcoming album, due in spring 2027. Arriving as the duo prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their beloved Because I’m Awesome album, the single finds them doing what they do best: delivering infectious, feel-good punk rock with plenty of personality. With its end-of-the-world romantic imagery, the track sounds like a declaration of love that could survive just about anything.
Musically, it’s classic Dollyrots through and through. Huge, bright power chords, a fast and bouncy rhythm and relentlessly driving energy make this an instant earworm. Kelly Ogden’s vocals are as irresistible as ever, balancing her trademark sweetness with just the right amount of bratty attitude. And then there’s that chorus: gloriously catchy, unapologetically fun and practically made for a room full of people singing their hearts out.
More than two decades into their career, The Dollyrots remain one of pop-punk’s most underappreciated treasures. ‘Apocalyptic Romance’ is a reminder of exactly why they’ve endured, combining youthful exuberance with the confidence of a band who know their strengths. If the world really is ending, there are certainly worse ways to go out.
