Carla Aakre captures the essence of connection with ‘through’

Helsinki-based singer-songwriter Carla Aakre invites listeners into a world where small gestures and brief exchanges reveal profound emotions. Following the equally intimate ‘watercolour’, her newest single ‘through’ captures the essence of connection, painting a tender story of hope and love between two people. Using her keen eye for detail, Aakre translates the fleeting nature of looks, expressions, and touches into a song rich with subtlety and depth.

This single arrives as part of her upcoming full-length album, Things I Forgot to Tell You, where Aakre journeys through the recesses of her mind, leading her listeners along paths of longing, doubt, and joy. Aakre’s delicate storytelling is at the heart of her music, transforming her reflections and memories into a mesmerizing collection of songs. Her unique voice in the indie folk/pop scene combines imaginative lyricism and a quest to push the boundaries of her genre.

Recorded in her Helsinki studio flat and her family’s cottage in southern Finland, ‘through’ is infused with the warmth of these intimate spaces, creating an inviting and deeply personal listening experience. Collaborating with producer and mixer Roni Ylhäinen, Aakre embraced analog sounds, laying down many of the track’s final takes on an 8-track multitracker. Her sister, Milla Käyhty, added the finishing touches with intricate string and horn arrangements, rounding out the song’s expressive soundscape.
