Charlotte Greve reconnects with the creative process on ‘Lighter Blue’, the final single ahead of forthcoming debut album WATERBODIES. Written around a period of feeling lost and disconnected from making art, the track captures the moment music begins to provide a sense of purpose and direction again.
A repeating acoustic guitar pattern and steady drums create the rhythmic mantra at its heart, carrying ‘Lighter Blue’ forward with an easy, free-flowing motion. Greve’s layered vocals and soft harmonies sit within rather than above the arrangement, while a barely-there synth adds to its cool, spacious atmosphere. There are traces of folk, ambient music and more experimental territory, but ‘Lighter Blue’ resists settling comfortably into any one of them. Instead, it unfolds like something being carried on a breeze — gentle, meditative and quietly restorative.
Annika Nagel’s accompanying video strips things back even further, keeping Greve at its centre as she appears surrounded by a shifting veil of pale smoke. It’s a simple visual, but one that complements the song beautifully, giving physical form to music that feels deliberately weightless and difficult to hold onto.
