Singer-songwriter Emily Mercer returns with her colourful new single ‘Read Aloud’ – a personal and playful reflection on presence, gratitude, and learning to notice the good that’s right in front of you. The single is taken from her upcoming album of the same name, released on September 18.

Built around intimate lyricism and rich, textured production, ‘Read Aloud’ captures the internal battle between overthinking and appreciating the quiet moments of love and stability that often go unnoticed. Punchy and groove-driven with a delicate vulnerability at its core, the single showcases Emily Mercer’s ability to translate deeply human emotions into something expansive, relatable and fun. The single is accompanied by an outlandish music video which combines the nostalgia of 90’s kids TV with a dark twist.

A sharp and distinctive lyricist, Mercer lays her cards on the table – sharing lessons learned the hard way and celebrating our shared weirdness. Speaking about the newly released single, Emily says: “This song is about learning to be grateful and present. I was feeling so frustrated at how much I lived inside my head, consumed by anxiety, and was completely unable to see the good that was right in front of me. It also acknowledges the patience of the people who have stuck around through it all, even when I haven’t felt worthy of that love. This is a hopeful song about starting to let go of that.”
