Ganser share new single/video ‘Discount Diamonds’

Last month, Chicago’s Ganser announced their third LP Animal Hospital (due out August 29 on felte). The follow up to the band’s highly-regarded 2020 LP Just Look At The Sky (produced with Mia Clarke of Electrelane) and their  2022 EP Nothing You Do Matters (produced with Liars’ Angus Andrew), Animal Hospital was announced with the single ‘Black Sand.’ Today, the band are sharing a second preview of the record, a track called ‘Discount Diamonds.’

Where ‘Black Sand’ saw the band delivering at a peak of intensity, their latest single shifts gears, delivering a woozy and warped groove that flirts with early-DFA dance punk, imbued with Ganser’s customary inventiveness and buoyed by Alicia Gaines’ magnetic, drawling delivery.

Gaines says of the track: “It’s a bit of a piss-take, isn’t it? There’s always someone up top saying what the kids are doing wrong, always a voice telling you the party’s over. I liked the idea of making a dance track that’s constantly questioning whether dancing’s still allowed. It’s got that suspicious energy, like too much coffee and not enough sleep. There’s humour in it, definitely, but also a bit of that end-of-the-night feeling when the lights come up and you’re not sure where you left your optimism.”
