‘Screw It Up’ is the blistering new single from Bristol’s finest and loudest; Grandmas House. The four piece – previously a trio – have been busy honing their grunge and post-punk influenced sound since the release of last year’s riotous Who I Am EP, the success of which saw the band hand picked to work with fashion house Celine, as well as Dr Martens, cult jewellery brand Tatty Devine and Fred Perry.
Citing influences that range from IDLES to Alexander McQueen and Francis Bacon to Nirvana, The Breeders and Boygenius, Yasmin, Poppy, Zoe and Polly are a genuinely unique proposition. Refusing to be pigeon holed, they are here to shake up perceptions with their intelligent, stylish and raucous take on rock music.
The definition of visceral, ‘Screw It Up’ arrives as the band wrap up a tour across Europe supporting ARXX and is the perfect sonic representation of “having to walk on eggshells in a relationship and feeling like you have to keep you emotions bottled up in order to be liked”. Heavy even by Grandmas House standards, it brims with the frustration and confusion caused in situations like this, whilst also delivering two minutes of thrillingly cathartic respite.
