Hua Li 化力 releases new single and video ‘Cherrier’

Hua Li 化力 unveils her latest creation, the spellbinding single and music video titled ‘Cherrier’, via Next Door Records. This release takes audiences on a poignant journey through the late noughties in Montreal’s vibrant Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood.

‘Cherrier’ weaves a luminous and compelling narrative, showcasing the beauty in tenderness and the courage in letting go. In this soul-stirring experience, Hua Li serenades her adopted city, transmuting nostalgia into fertile ground.

Immerse yourself in the pulsating rhythm of ‘Cherrier,’ where a driving synth bass line mirrors the heartbeat of the city. This track is more than a fusion of past and present; it’s a testament to music’s power in storytelling and self-discovery. Through Hua Li’s poignant lyrics, ‘Cherrier’ transcends melody, offering a profound journey of self-discovery, resilience, and celebration.

Reflecting on the track, Hua Li shares, “‘Cherrier’ is a song about coming of age, leaping from 2009 to 2019 and back again as I attempt to overturn traumatic memories. Since writing this song, I’ve been able to kiss again on rue Cherrier and reclaim these parts of the city from a place of healing and celebration.”

Along with the single, Hua Li shares a self-directed music video. Speaking of the video, the artist says, “I wanted to revisit some of the places that I walked through daily when I lived on the Plateau – shooting on a camcorder in Video8 lends a nostalgic element to this ever-changing neighbourhood in Montreal – watching the footage back as I think of my early twenties feels like I’m somehow misremembering what those streets used to look like. Collaborating with my friend Simona Lepadatu on this video was especially meaningful because we both weaved our way through the Montreal DIY party scene back then but didn’t meet each other until later in life. This is the home video shot by Simona that never was.”
