London based, alt-rock riser Marta Vega returns with the vibrant new single ‘Bye’.
Produced by Andrea Tripodi (Bambole di pezza, Adriano Celentano,Gianluca Grignani) and mastered by Stefan Brown at Abbey Road Studios (Revok Records in-house engineer collaborator with Detroit tech-house labels; vinyl mastering for Berlin’s Subverted Records), ‘Bye’ brings more of the evocative, catchy yet edgy sound which makes Marta Vega such a compelling newcomer.
Distorted, boxy distortion flavours the melodic vocals which create a compelling breakup narrative over the driving instrumentation. Punchy drums, fuzzy guitar tones and glitching production create a high octane yet commercially minded soundscape, balancing its pop elements with Vega’s fuzzy alt-rock sensibilities.
Talking about the recording of the track, Marta Vega explains: “‘Bye’ was written in just a few hours, and it really captured the emotions I was living through in that moment — the anger, the sense of loss, but also the urge to break free. I actually wrote the lyrics when I was in the bathroom at the studio, just scribbling down what I was feeling. My grandma had just passed away, and it almost felt like a spiritual power was guiding me in the writing that day.
“At the time I was listening to a lot of Lil Peep and XXXTentacion, and that definitely influenced the way I delivered the vocals — raw, direct, almost like letting the words spill out. The post-punk drums gave it this restless drive, and together ‘Bye’ felt like unlocking something mysterious that had always been inside me.”
