Derby alt-rock trio MuddiBrooke return with ‘One Life’, the first single from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, arriving spring 2027. Born from one of Brooke’s sleepless nights spent overthinking everything from getting older to other people’s opinions, the track is a defiant reminder to stop worrying about things that don’t really matter and get on with living. After all, we only get one life.
Musically, ‘One Life’ is a rhythmic, largely restrained slice of grungy hard rock, punctuated by flashes of distorted guitars and heavier moments. A driving bassline and stomping drums provide the backbone, while Brooke’s raw, gritty vocals give the song its anthemic quality. The arrangement builds in intensity without becoming overly complicated, with some unusual, ululating hollers adding to its almost tribal atmosphere. There’s a real sense of conviction here, particularly in those moments that practically invite a crowd to sing along.
The accompanying video sees the band performing in a field, riding around in a battered VW-style pick-up and having a bit of fun, with a cuddly monkey making an appearance too. Towards the end, fans from their community, The Tribe, join in by lip-syncing while wearing Brooke’s signature makeup. It’s a lovely celebration of the connection between band and audience.
