NESYA returns with ‘I’M NOT THAT EVIL.’, a dark and theatrical new single that dives headfirst into gothic storytelling. Told from the perspective of a ghost possessing a vulnerable young woman, the track explores the blurred line between monster and victim, following two souls trapped within the same body as they both search for freedom.
Drawing heavily from post-punk and darkwave influences, ‘I’M NOT THAT EVIL.’ packs an impressive amount into its brief runtime. Driving guitars give the song an immediate sense of urgency before it suddenly veers into full-blown electronic club territory, only to switch back again moments later. The constant push and pull creates an unsettling atmosphere that perfectly mirrors the song’s narrative, as though two opposing voices are fighting for control. Dramatic, unpredictable and deliciously theatrical, it’s a track that keeps listeners on edge from beginning to end.
Speaking about the single, NESYA explains: “‘I’M NOT THAT EVIL.’ tells the story of a spirit who sees a vulnerable girl as her chance to be free again. While the possession gives the ghost a second life, the girl trapped inside is desperately searching for peace and escape. It’s written like two souls crying out through the same body.”
