Olivesque returns with new single ‘Anomaly’

Describing, in her own words, a ‘reboot’ of the Olivesque high-sheen bedroom pop machine, the Manchester-based singer, songwriter and wry documentarian of ‘bleak love, death and heartache’ returns with her latest single, ‘Anomaly’. Accurately outlined as the happiest sounding Olivesque song to date, racing to catch up to her acclaimed, breakthrough 2023 releases, pin-sharp production and lullaby vocals affect a deceit of breezy, upbeat synth pop combined with darker lyrical intent.

Skimming the stones of her first two singles over last year’s release schedule, Olivesque was able to watch, satisfied, as the ripples emanated from the release of ‘Alice’ and ‘Death’, both unflinching, personal confrontations of identity and lost time. Now ‘Anomaly’ arrives with an equal sense of unblinking courage, yet floated deceptively on a warm bed of instantly accessible, catchy, DIY pop.

Olivesque says:“’Anomaly’ follows a character drowning in bad habits and maps the manipulation and thought process behind selfishly wanting someone to stay when you refuse to meet their needs. “Am I your Anomaly?” is an insult, it’s a clear recognition that someone deserves better when you’re asking them to ignore their instincts. I think subconsciously we are all guilty of manipulation in some form, some worse than others.”
