Introducing rising singer-songwriter Sarah Crean with the artful and intimate earworm, ‘What Do I Know?’ An essential and cathartic release that points the way for the Irish artist, building on her low-key independent breakout ‘2AM’. ‘What Do I Know?’ was produced by Sarah alongside Adam O’Leary and Gabe Goodman (Del Water Gap, Maggie Rogers) and mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Blondshell) perfectly showcasing her delectable, rich voice and a sharp eye for life’s intimate details.
Speaking on the track, Sarah says, “‘What Do I Know?’ is a satirical take on a toxic relationship breaking down. The song was written a few years after the time in which it’s set – which means I was able to approach it from a satirical angle. I think if it had been written during the period it took place, it would have been a much darker take…” Punchy, dynamic lyrics soaring over swelling guitars and delicate production, ‘What Do I Know?’ track is a poignant introduction to Sarah’s world.
‘What Do I Know?’ is accompanied by a striking video, directed by Neema Sadeghi and Ethan Frank filmed in Los Angeles earlier this year. The video sees Sarah catching out slight errors in her partner’s behaviour – manifested through glitches and broken continuity in the scenes. Suspense builds as the inconsistencies become more prominent, frantic – Sarah (literally) breaks the third wall and escapes her parallel reality. Sarah describes the video process “When I wrote the song, I had a really clear idea for what I wanted the video to be – and working with Neema and Ethan to bring that to life was a total joy from start to finish. They picked the ideas up and delivered the best results instantly – it was an experience I’ll never forget and I’m very grateful to have these personal stories that I’ve written be supported by such an incredible experience.”
