Essex quartet She’s In Parties share their second single of the year ‘L Word’, along with a romantic accompanying video and the announcement of their sublime debut EP End Scene, out October 6 via Submarine Cat Records.
Haunting, coy and vulnerable, ‘L Word’ is an incredibly intimate look into Katie’s private thoughts surrounding her hesitations with love. Soaring, reverb-doused vocals, oscillating lyricisms and howling riffs immaculately compliment her fears towards opening up to loved ones about her feelings. “This song is personal to me”, she candidly states, “and quite frankly lays all the emotion down right in front of your ears and eyes. I’m not known for verbally saying “I love you” to the people I love.”
She confesses that love puzzles her somewhat, however, not knowing if her feelings are true. Sometimes she doesn’t know if she’s “in love” or if there’s simply a reluctance to relinquish that relationship when she knows it so well, because “letting go is just too hard”. The video, directed by Leon Brinkley, further presents the notion of toeing the line between romance and conflict, with hazy rosy and mauve party scenes contrasting with solo darkened shots of the lone, lovelorn protagonists.
